Walk the Land: Ferncliff Forest Winter Tree ID Walk with Winnakee Land Trust’s Bob Davis

Learn to ID trees, even without their leaves! Winnakee Land Trust president Bob Davis will lead this walk through Ferncliff Forest and demonstrate how its old-growth collection of northern hardwoods—maple, ashe, oak, hickory, birch and beech among them—can be accurately identified, even in the dead of winter. We’ll also see evidence of the beavers who’ve been hard at work on the trees around the pond! Getting to know the area’s historic trees is a key to our understanding of the region’s overall forest ecology. Bob will point out the impacts of climate change and provide us with steps we can take to help preserve the distinguished character of our forests, which are central to making the Hudson Valley the beautiful place that it is. Please join us!
