Earth Day, Saturday April 27, 12-3 pm

Join us for a day of nurturing nature! We’ve joined with the Town and Village of Rhinebeck to put on a festival of earth-supporting activities at Thompson-Mazzarella (aka Starr) Park from 12-3 pm on April 27. Help spruce up the pollinator garden (gloves are a good idea), walk with a Winnakee Land Trust guide and learn how to spot (and tackle!) invasives. There will be demos of electric garden tools (blowers, trimmers), a herpetologist walk with a 6th grader who’s something of an amphibian/reptile whisperer, seed-ball making with Sandy from Morton Library, and loads more stuff. It’s free, btw! See you there.

Check out the full schedule here!

After School Sprouts

Do you love to be outside and get your hands dirty? Join us for an afterschool garden club led by CLS parent Kaitlin Doherty and the team at Dirty Gaia! Together we’ll sow and grow our very own square-foot gardens. Along the way we’ll explore life within the soil, create garden art, stretch with garden yoga, taste test the herbs and veggies, enjoy a garden feast and have lots of fun! Students will take their edible gardens home at the end of the program. Register through Chancellor Livingston elementary school.

How to Meadow Your Lawn: A hands-on learning experience at Vlei Marsh

Walk and Restore the land with Winnakee Land Trust and Dirty Gaia this spring. Join us for a hands-on event at Vlei Marsh and learn the ins and outs of turning your lawn into a meadow!

Basketweaving with Invasives, June 1, 1-4pm

Melissa Hewitt and Mirabai Trent of Circle Creative Collective will lead this workshop on weaving baskets with invasive plants (that don’t belong in our ecosystem but look lovely on our tables and shelves). We’ll be meeting at Ferncliff Forest in Rhinebeck, 1pm to 4pm, and all materials will be provided. Registration info coming shortly.

Common Ground screening, June 11, 5:30 pm

Join us for a screening of Common Ground at Upstate Film’s Starr Cinema in Rhinebeck. A follow up to the eco-blockbuster Kiss the Ground, this updated doc shows how we can turn the tide on climate change—it’s all about the dirt! Common Ground delves into the connection between regenerative farming, public health and politics, and features a stellar cast, including Laura Dern, Woody Harrelson, Jason Mamoa and Rosario Dawson. Q and A to follow with a local regenerative farmer. More on that and registration info coming shortly.

Exceptional Gardens Tour, Saturday, August 3

We’re so happy to announce that we’re expanding the parameters of our gardens tour this year. Along with the wonderfully imaginative edible gardens which have been so popular, we’re adding Rhinecliff and Rhinebeck-area gardens designed with native plants and pollinators in mind. The Edible Gardens Tour is now the Exceptional Gardens Tour and will be held on Saturday, August 3, from 10am to 1pm. As always, we will provide a map of the participating gardens upon registration, and visitors can tour at their own pace. The registration link will be available in the near future.
